Choosing the Right Health Bar

The Vitamin Shoppe
If there is a common question I hear a lot, it is how to choose the right health bar. How do you tell the difference between a meal replacement bar and a protein bar? Did you even know there is a huge difference between the two? You could actually disable any chance of seeing real results in your goals simply because you are choosing the wrong foods. It is important to truly understand every food and the ingredients that you are consuming if you are serious about accomplishing health goals.
For teens and the young this is very important. A reason I was inspired to find education on this topic was because I have a teenage stepson and one day he tells me his mother has bought him a popular high fat/high protein shake mix and he drinks it every morning trying to lose weight. He had intentions of working out, but aside from some PE class time he was not attending a gym. The ingredients in his drink were meant for those with an intense workout regimen in their day and not for use as a standard weight loss shake when activity level is below moderate. It was hard to convince him that this ‘yummy’ drink that has cool commercials and shows fit men was the entirely wrong choice for him!
There are real purposes to health products and with nutrition bars and shakes, they are very specific. Don’t choose the wrong product or you can have the opposite results. I reached out to The Vitamin Shoppe who I have the pleasure of working with quite a bit and here is the advice sent to me for all of you.
Brian Tanzer of The Vitamin Shoppe® , Board Certified Nutrition Specialist with an MS in nutritional science was able to provide this understanding so you can choose the right health bars for yourself.

Difference between protein bars and meal replacement bars:

Protein bars are higher in protein and contain less carbohydrate and fat.  They are a convenient source of additional protein when you’re on the go. Meal replacement bars typically contain all three key nutrients, protein, carbohydrate and fat, as well as additional vitamins and minerals.  These bars can be used to replace a small meal, or even as a healthy snack when your pressed for time.

Protein Bars

Protein Bar

Contains whey protein hydrolysate, which is easier to digest than typical whey protein isolate/concentrate. Recommended for those looking for a protein snack that’s easy on the digestive system.
Great option for a vegan looking for a high-fiber, all natural protein bar.
Only 230 calories and 12 grams of protein this is a great option for those looking for a non-GMO, organic protein bar.
Meal Replacement Bars
Meal Replacement

Due to the high protein content, along with carbohydrates and fat, this bar works as a mini meal replacement. It’s free of artificial flavors and colors.
High in protein with 20 grams of carbohydrates for energy and healthy fats derived from almonds this bar can also be used as a mini meal replacement

Advil Sinus Congestion and Pain

I was sent product for feature. Campaign on behalf of Smiley360

Advil

Like clockwork, my husband, youngest son and I suffer the same allergy symptoms in the spring and fall allergy-prone times of year. Our sinuses are what suffer the worst. We have that one nostril clogged feeling and it lasts for weeks. When I was asked if I wanted to be sent some Advil Sinus Congestion and Pain for feature I was not so much excited to try it, but rather add to my medicine box because Advil Sinus is all I use when I suffer.
Advil Sinus

I discovered Advil Sinus Congestion last spring on accident. I had used a certain brand and when I went to buy it I saw a special with coupons attached to boxes of Advil product so I thought I’d try it because the sale was too large to resist. I took the chance on switching and realized I was missing out. After the first day or two I had immediate relief like I had never had in the thick of my symptoms.
Advil Sinus Congestion
I love that it is a one dose capsule, The capsule is small and is non-drowsy. I would take one in the morning to make sure I was not too inconvenienced all day with the sinus headaches and congestion. I get ibuprofen for the painful swelling and phenylephrine for the congestion. The perfect blend for congestion relief.
Advil Pill
Now you can also take advantage of a coupon like I did to try Advil Sinus Congestion & Pain because they are offering a $1 off coupon. Use Advil Sinus Congestion & Pain for nasal congestion, sinus pressure, nasal swelling, headaches, fever and body aches.
Based on my statistical researcher it shows that if you like this post then you may love these posts below. Come on over and read more! Leave your thoughts, share or just read! Thank you for staying around.

It is possible to serve the same great dishes but with a healthy twist! If you make your own dips or breads, try changing the ingredients to healthier options. You can now create mayonnaise-based recipes with less guilt when you use Hampton Creek Just Mayo varieties. We have been using Hampton Creek in my home for a while. Our teen loves the garlic mayo and I love the chipotle mayo that I use in chicken and tuna salads and I can find it in my local stores.
Hampton Creek has shared some recipes below that offer you the opportunity for clean eating for the game. They are made with varieties of Hampton Creek Just Mayo products that are gluten-free, Non GMO, dairy, soy and lactose free and naturally cholesterol free. You can have fun adding these to your own recipes with their flavors of garlic, sriracha, chipotle and original.

Health Benefits of those ‘Bad’ Foods

Many of us stay away from our favorite foods because they have a reputation for being “bad” or unhealthy for us. Being constantly bombarded by nutritional information, it’s often hard to cut through the clutter for a clear answer on which seemingly unhealthy foods are actually not so bad when balanced with an overall healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Josh Sandell of Orthology, a world-class solution for rapid recovery from physical injuries and chronic pain, is bringing attention to several foods that, when consumed in moderation and with regular exercise, have multiple health benefits.
Chocolate: The cacao bean, which is what chocolate is derived from, is full of theobromine and flavonoids, an antioxidant known to help improve heart health and shield cells from negative effects of aging
Beef: When shopping for beef, opt for a lean beef option at your local grocery store. Beef provides a mass amount of vitamins and minerals including B-vitamins, iron and protein.
Peanut Butter: Peanuts are high in protein and provide a good dose of potassium, which lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure. It’s important to note that choosing natural or organic peanut butter is much healthier option.
Coffee:  Coffee can help to reduce the possibility of premature death by lowering the chance of cardiovascular disease and systemic inflammation, not to mention increasing cognitive function and mood.
Potatoes: Potatoes are loaded with important nutrients like vitamin C, potassium and magnesium which can aid in stabilizing blood pressure. When preparing potatoes, choose a healthy method like baking, and don’t over do it with salt and other fixings.
Balance is crucial to implementing a successful approach to healthy eating. When certain foods are consumed in moderation and paired with consistent exercise, it creates a more balanced lifestyle. By taking a deeper look into these foods that have long been associated with negative thoughts, we are able to uncover numerous health benefits.
This post was written for Parenting Healthy and my hope is that you understand that it takes research and time to truly understand the articles you read on food. If you learn to read labels and educate yourself on the real benefits of food, there are many ‘bad’ foods you do not need to worry about avoiding or completely cutting out of your diet. Food and nutrition is a science and these posts aim to help educate you further.

Best Bath Toy: Yookidoo Musical Duck Race

I was sent product for feature

Musical Duck Race

I can’t remember, is bath time our time or the child’s time? I love bath time and now that my son is older, he asks for one everyday and always has. He is 7 now and still has his toys all over in there, but as he was younger I could actually bring in laundry and get it all folded, clean a bathroom and wash floors without interruption. Now that he is older we have asked why insists on a bath everyday, I tell him he can take one every other day if he wants unless he really plays hard. He tells me it is his ‘quiet time’. So, at 7 he has already learned that a warm bath is the perfect “me” time.
Keeping a young child occupied in the bath is a must or they become bored very fast. Having toys like the Yookidoo Musical Duck Race is the perfect interactive, busy toy that makes bath time fun.
